About Protect Our Winters
Now more than ever, climate change is threatening places we love. Pro snowboarder Jeremy Jones founded Protect Our Winters in 2007 to organize action against climate change, protect the environment and create a worldwide network of outdoor enthusiasts.
Protect Our Winters (POW) has given a voice to the outdoor sports community which supports 7.6 million jobs and creates over $800 billion in economic revenue. Outdoor recreation also contributes to the growth of mountain towns and similar outdoor-oriented communities by attracting new residents, higher incomes, and faster earnings growth than a county without recreation.
POW’s goal is to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, and plans to get there by turning outdoor lovers into a community of advocates by connecting them with other like-minded adventurers, providing opportunities for advocacy across local, state and federal campaigns and building a movement to shift cultural norms of our nation’s attitude towards the importance of climate change.
Right now, huge banks such as JPMorgan Chase are funding fossil fuel investments and POW is currently dedicating all of its time to stop this funding from the source so there will be less fossil fuel extraction, less climate change and less destruction of our great outdoors.
Based on estimates from the 2018 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report, we have a little over a decade to curb emissions and avoid the worst impacts of the climate crisis. POW is protecting the places and lifestyles we love from climate change; the outdoors aren’t just a passion, they’re a recreational resource that unite us. We want to help POW influence the world to take control of climate change before it’s too late to protect what we’ll never be able to get back. As you know, we are obsessed with the outdoors. Let's help POW on their mission to protect the environment for future generations.
